The Protactinium Mining Town is a mining operation situated in East Bushington. It was founded in the early 20th century by a group of eccentric prospectors who believed that the metal would be the key to unlocking unimaginable wealth and power. Despite its lack of usefulness, the mining of Protactinium became the lifeblood of the town, providing jobs and a sense of purpose for the residents. However, over the years, the demand for Protactinium gradually declined, leading to a decline in the town's population and economy. Despite its lack of practical value, Protactinium remains a source of fascination for scientists and amateur metallurgists alike, who continue to study its properties in the hopes of finding some hidden use for this most enigmatic of elements.

What's a Protactinium?

Protactinium (formerly protoactinium) is a chemical element with the symbol Pa and atomic number 91. It is a dense, silvery-gray actinide metal that readily reacts with oxygen, water vapor, and inorganic acids. Concentrations of protactinium in the Earth's crust are typically a few parts per trillion but may reach up to a few parts per million in some uraninite ore deposits. Because of its scarcity, high radioactivity, and high toxicity, there are currently no uses for protactinium. However, this isn't stopping the consortiums from running this operation. They figure if no one else is doing it, it's worth doing. This might sound like backward thinking, and it is, but it's not our money being spent here. So do we truly care that they're doing this?
